FAQ - PREMADE BOOK COVERS

  • What is a PREMADE book cover?
A “premade” is an artwork created with the intent of turning into a book cover. My artworks consist of manipulating stock images that I purchase from reputable sources such as Depositphotos, Adobe Stock, Shutterstock, iStockohotos, NeoStock etc, combined with painted elements and effects.
  • What programs/tools do you use to create your work?
I mainly use Photoshop CC, DAZ Studio and my drawing tablet Wacom Cintiq 13" Pro.
  • What are stock images?
“Stock photography is the supply of photographs, which are often licensed for specific uses.” (source:Wikipedia) Currently, my most used providers are Depositphotos and NeoStock. I purchase a Standard License for each stock image I use. Each stock photo provider has their own rules you should get acquainted with to make sure you are abiding by them. (Here I talk about Depositphotos because I use it the most.) The most important part: Depositphotos’s Standard License covers up to 500 000 impressions (for example 500k printed books). This means that if your book doesn’t sell more than 500k times, you’re fine. But if the number goes above 500k, then you will need the Extended License. Clients are responsible for keeping track of their sales and covering the Extended License if/when needed. You can read further about the licenses here: https://depositphotos.com/license.html
  • What fonts do you use?
Each font I use in my premades was carefully chosen and is either free for personal and commercial use or I’ve purchased a license from reputable sources, such as Creative Market, that allows me to use it commercially.

  • TLDR:
The price of a premade cover consists of the Standard Licenses for all the stock images used in it, the license for commercial usage of the fonts used in it and the artwork itself but does NOT include the Extended Licenses, they are the client’s responsibility. If the sales of your book are reaching the 500k mark, contact me for a list of the stock images used to create your book cover (in case I haven’t sent it to you already).
